Zipline is set to build one of four distribution centres at Asante Mampong to help improve service delivery to the various health facilities in the Ashanti region.
The drone delivery company’s only distribution centre is located at Omenako in the Eastern Region.
Officials of the company however revealed in a meeting with journalists in the Ashanti region that three more were expected to be built in Asante Mampong, Walewale and Sefwi Wiawso.
The new distribution centres aside improving coverage, will also provide employment for the youth of the country.
Zipline has surpassed the expectations of many, making life-saving deliveries of essential medical supplies such as blood, anti-snake medicines, vaccines etc. in various remote villages in Ghana within three months of their operations in Ghana.
Fears and misgivings debunked
Systems Integration Lead for Zipline Ghana; Naa Adorkor Yawson also used the meeting to debunk some fears and misconceptions expressed by various facets of the Ghanaian society. She explained for instance that their drones did not have cameras and hence could not take photographs of people as it traveled. She also explained that packages when dropped by the drones do not break on impact since they are carefully packaged and protected. They added that hospitals and patients are not paying anything for the drone services.
“Government has not even paid one cedi for zipline services” they explained saying the amounts that were thrown in the media space were projections of deliveries at full capacity for the next four years.
Madam Yawson also explained that none of their drones has crash-landed as is being propagated.
The company appealed to Ghanaians to consider the lives being saved and avoid politicizing their operations.
