Allow Prez Mahama to contest unopposed – Adusei

mahamaWith the congress to elect the flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) drawing closer, a former Deputy Minister of the Ashanti Region, Mr Samuel Yaw Adusei, has appealed to the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the rank and file of NDC to declare President John Dramani Mahama unopposed for the party’s flag bear position.

He said it was equally important for the NEC to strongly engineer an agenda that would maintain the union between the president and his vice as they battle the New Patriotic Party (NPP) during the 2016 general election to form the next government.

Better Ghana agenda

According to Mr Adusei, maintaining the two would give a firm signal to Ghanaians that the NDC had not only fulfilled its Better Ghana agenda, but was solidly at the forefront of leading the country to achieve greater laurels.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic in an interview, Mr Adusei said in view of the strong challenge the NPP?was likely to put up against the NDC in the 2016 general election, it would be unhealthy for any member of the NDC to challenge the candidature of President Mahama as leader of the party.

Describing anyone with the intention of contesting President Mahama as an enemy of progress, Mr Adusei noted, “I believe it will be unhealthy to contest the President, so anybody harbouring the idea of contesting the President is an enemy of progress, and this must be highly resisted. It will be unwise to contest him because it will not only derail the gains of the party, but will also hamper our fortunes in the 2016 election.”

Elaborating, he said, “It is for these reasons that the NEC should also ensure that the John Dramani Mahama/Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur ticket would be maintained at all cost. I also want to appeal to the NEC, the Council of elders and the rank and file of the party to ensure that that ticket is maintained for victory 2016. The NPP has maintained their team (Nana/Bawumia), so it will be unwise for NDC not to maintain our one-touch winning team for the 2016 elections.”

He also said as the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for Bantama in the 2012 general election, as well as a former Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister and Chairman of the Elections Committee which supervised the Ashanti Regional conference in November last year, “I know the ground well”.
