Yammin exposes Nana Addo on Ghana’s LGBTQI+ situation

Former Deputy Ashanti regional Minister; Joseph Yammin

Joseph Yammin; a member of the Communications team of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) has taken on the President of Ghana over his handling of LGBTQI+ issues.

He accuses the President; Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of encouraging the activities of the LGBTQI+ folks in Ghana. According to Mr. Yammin, the President makes statements he believes will assuage Ghanaians and then encourage them behind the scenes. “The biggest concern of Ghanaians is the encouragement of their activities by the complete silence of the authorities. This encouragement has brought them to the level where they are bold enough to open an office in Ghana” he said.

Mr. Yammin; a politician and minister of the Gospel tells rawgist.com’s Bernard Buachi in an interview that the time has come for Ghanaians to “take a definitive stance on the matter” since it keeps popping up now and then. “When are we seeing draft legislation to Parliament regarding this matter considering these people are getting bolder by the day while their population continues to rise?” He queried.

The LGBTQI+ community in Ghana some days ago opened an office in Ghana; an event that brought up discussions about Ghanaian culture, sexual orientations and the law.

Sections of Ghanaians including Mr. Yammin criticized the President for keeping mute while the discussions went on.

The President in an interview on Al-jazeera stated that homosexuality is illegal in Ghana because there are not enough activists pushing for its legalization. When quizzed by the host as to whether he would support such a movement, President Akufo-Addo responded: “I think that it is something that is bound to happen”.
