Work to revamp sports in Ashanti-Simon osei Mensah to Sports Committee

Ghana Sports News-The Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Simon Osei Mensah has charged the newly inaugurated regional sports committee to work to revamp all dying sporting activities in Ashanti.

According to him, the region stands to gain from talents that will be recruited through the organization of sporting activities.

Speaking succinctly during a brief ceremony to inaugurate the Seven (7) member committee at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC), Mr Osei Mensah charged the Samuel Ampadu-Kyei led committee to use their new mandate to promote, encourage and develop sports throughout the region.

He urged them to coordinate the activities of the District Sports Units within the region as well as care, maintain and provide sports facilities in the region.

MAKE UP:

Made up of six men and one lady, the regional minister reminded the committee to assist in organizing Regional Sports Festivals at least once every two years.

He tasked them to prepare and submit sports commission returns on sporting activities in the Ashanti region as the new ACT, 2016, ACT 934 section 21 enjoins.

He asked the committee members to perform their functions as assigned to them by the Board of the Sports Commission.

The members of the Regional Sports Committee are Samuel Ampadu-Kyei (Chairman), Edmond Appiah, Regional Sports Director (Ashanti), Hon Stephen Ofori, KMA representative, Joseph Acquah, Obuasi Municipal Representative, Nana Yaw Wiredu, Asokwa Municipal Representative, Mr Kofi Agyei, Regional Minister’s nominee and Nana Ama Ampomah, regional minister’s nominee.

RESPONSES:

Speaking at the ceremony later, Chairman of the Committee, Samuel Ampadu-Kyei on behalf of the group promised to do their best to revive sports activities in the region.

He called for support from all stakeholders so as to ensure collectively they work to make the region a hub for recruiting best sporting potentials.

Nana Yaw Wiredu, a member of the committee expressed delight at the opportunity to serve on the committee to revive sports in Ashanti.

The only lady in the committee, Nana Ama Ampomah thanked the President and the Regional Minister for the initiative and promised to play her part to ensure collectively they work to fulfill the mandate setting them up.
