WAEC commences registration for first ever BECE remedials

examThe West African Examinations Council, WAEC has commenced the registration for the first ever Basic Education Certificate Examination, BECE for the Private Candidates.

The registration which started two weeks ago is a government policy to give candidates who failed in their BECE papers, another chance to make amends in order to progress into the second cycle institutions.

The BECE which begun some 24 years ago is a one –time exam for final year students at the Junior high School level. The system has been criticised for truncating the progress of candidates who fail to obtain the required grades upon completion. The introduction of private exams at the basic level is therefore seeking to rectify this anomaly.

The Acting Public Relations Officer at WAEC, Robert Dery says the registration process which is biometric in nature will end on 29thOctober 2014.

He said it is limited only to persons aged 18 or above. Mr. Dery added that Junior High School students are not eligible to enter for the examination.

Meanwhile WAEC is advising candidates to make payments for the registration at designated banks only by visa payment cards.
