Wasiu Iddrisu Murder: Trust courts for justice, don’t take law into your own hands-Lawyer to deceased’s family

Lawyer Evans Amankwah wants cool heads to prevail in the trial of suspects in Wasiu Iddrisu murder

Lawyer for the three suspects who turned themselves in to the Ashanti regional Police over the murder of Wasiu Iddrisu at the NDC Ashanti Party office has advised family of the deceased to trust the court if it is justice they seek.

A group of people purporting to be family of the deceased besieged the magistrate court 4 where the case was being heard and verbally assaulted various people including the suspects and their lawyer.

Lawyer Evans Amankwah however tells Bernard Buachi of rawgist.com he is disappointed at the conduct of the family.

He stressed that the three who through him, turned themselves in did so on their own volition as a sign of good will since their names were mentioned and insists they are at the moment not guilty of any crime.

He appealed to the family of the deceased not to take the laws into their own hands to interrupt the wheels of justice.

“After all, the suspects are also seeking justice, that is what we are all seeking” he stressed and added that justice can only be obtained from the court of competent jurisdiction.

He also explained for good measure, that bail is not tantamount to acquittal.

He however insists that he is absolutely sure his clients are innocent of the charges proffered against them and that innocence will be proven soon.

The three are part of 12 suspects declared wanted by the police in connection with the killing of Wasiu Iddrisu at the Ashanti Regional office of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are in Police custody.

The three; Dauda Ibrahim alias ‘Wayo’, 40; Samuel Agyin alias ‘Rock’, 32 and Abdul Ganiyu, 37 alias ‘Petit’ are currently in custody after the court refused them bail “for their own safety and to help the police with investigations”.

The police are still on the lookout for the rest of the suspects.

On February 18, 2019, Wasiu Iddrisu, a member of the Ashanti Regional Taskforce of the National Democratic Congress was shot and killed in a scuffle with members suspected to belong to the Hawks, another pro-NDC group at the Ashanti Regional office of the party.

Another person, Abdul Rahman also sustained gunshot wounds and was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
