Mr Eric Opoku, Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, has expressed concern about the level of indiscipline in the society, saying it had weakened structures for unity, stability and development.
He noted that indiscipline had characterised today’s generation, especially the youth, and was affecting human resource development, interpersonal relations, social, political and economic development.
Mr Opoku said this in an address read for him at the opening session of the three-day Second Biennial Council Meeting of Boys’ Brigade – Ghana at Sunyani.
The meeting on the theme: “Changing the Face of The Boys’ Brigade” was attended by representatives of 463 Boys’ Brigade Companies in the country.
He said the Boys Brigade was established to provide cooperation among local churches, support boys and the youth to assist Christian growth, development, and leadership training while assisting the church to reach out to transform the communities.
Mr Opoku called for concerted efforts among stakeholders to eliminate indiscipline to guarantee a bright future for the youth, and to accelerated national development.
He urged parents to encourage and support their children to join the Brigade and take keen interest in their activities.
Mr Opoku advised members of the Brigade not to limit themselves to the core training activities, but explore other areas to enhance their knowledge for the benefit of humanity.
The Reverend Dr Kofi Effa-Ababio, West Brong Presbytery Chairperson of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, said the changing face of the Brigade would demand complete change of attitude and behaviour of the leadership.
“Moral upbringing must involve training of the youth to show interest in church activities and respect authority,” he said.
Mr Kwamina Ollennu Amponah-Dadie, Lawyer and National President of Boys Brigade, stressed the need to change its image, including its administrative structure.
He urged the leadership to continue to train the youth to continue to assume leadership positions of the church and the country.
