A political science lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, KNUST Dr. Edward Brenya has bemoaned the practice where young people are discouraged from venturing into national politics and believes the 22 year old who won the recent NPP primaries could rise to be a successful politician like Tony Blair.
When asked whether Francisca Oteng Mensah, the second year law student of KNUST who won the NPP Primaries could make a positive impact in Ghanaian politics, Dr. Brenya says he believes Francisca will grow to become a great politician like Tony Blair.
The renowned KNUST political scientist dismissed claims that she won as a result of her father’s wealth but stated that the lady is smart and that helped her win the primaries. He stated that there were instances that others paid more but still lost their elections.
He added that if people have a problem with Francisca winning, they should also have a problem with the delegates who voted and the vetting panel who screened her. He stated being approved by the screening panel to allow her run indicates that she is highly qualified.
Dr. Edward Brenya further added that he believes she could combine her academic work with politics since some parliamentarians are able to combine academic work and political activities effectively.
He is therefore calling on the general public to all support young people entering into national politics.
