Techiman residents cry over poor roads, filth

Residents of Bono East Capital; Techiman are unhappy with the state of roads in the town. They say the roads have gotten so bad that even motorbikes are unable to use them.

Many of the residents in the town are farmers who are now have difficulty carting their farm produce to the town due to these bad roads.

Residents of New Tunsuase Electoral area popularly called “Abourso” who are mainly traders and farmers in Techiman also say they are unable to even move to the central business area for their daily activities. They say the rains have made their situation even more hopeless.

Some residents who spoke to rawgist.com further expressed their fear of a possible disease outbreak because of how their full and abandoned refuse dump site spills over and the liquid from it floods the potholes and enters their homes leaving a lot of stench.

For his part, Mr. John Nsor, Unit Committee Chairman for New Tunsuase reiterated that their team under the leadership of Hon. Abdul Ali Sammed, Assembly member for the electoral area have made tireless efforts to get the roads fixed or even reshaped but all to no avail. He is however optimistic that the authorities will as a matter of urgency do something about their problem.

Meanwhile, Hon. John Kofi Donyinah, the Techiman Municipal Chief Executive when contacted explained that there is an ongoing reshaping exercise of all Town roads by the Techiman Municipal Assembly and explained that the Abourso community will not be excluded. He therefore pleaded with the residents to exercise a little more constraint.

He assured that Techiman will in no time see a major facelift in terms of development especially roads and other infrastructures now that the City has been elevated to a regional capital status.
