Techiman: More than 10 Communities cut off by floods

Over 10 Communities in Techiman Nkrankrom cut off from town due to flooded Tano river, residents call for construction of bridge

Residents at Sewiah, Tawiakrom, Nfante and over 10 other Communities in the Nkrankrom electoral area of the Techiman Municipality have been cut off from town due to the over-flooded Tano river.

When the media managed to get around the area, it was discovered that over 3,000 people mainly farmers living there in the past weeks are unable to cross the Tano river and come to town for their daily activities due to the dilapidated nature of the only wooden bridge on the Tano river.

Some residents who spoke to the Media lamented that their farm products especially cocoa and food stuffs are rotting away. They also cried that their children are unable to attend school, cannot be transported to the hospital in case of sickness or emergencies. They are therefore pleading with authorities to come to their aid and work on their bridge immediately.

Apart from the bridge and bad roads, they are also pleading for potable water because the Tano river which is their only source of drinking water has been polluted.

Meanwhile, assembly member for Nkrankrom electoral area Hon. Naadu Nunu Rejoice said all her efforts towards averting the plight of her people have fallen on deaf ears.
