Suhum MP Slams Government Over Lax Approach to National Security

Suhum, Eastern Region – July 2025

Member of Parliament for the Suhum Constituency, Hon. Frank Asiedu Bekoe, has strongly criticized the government’s handling of national security issues, expressing particular concern over what he describes as a lack of urgency and seriousness.

Addressing Parliament, Hon. Asiedu Bekoe questioned the Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka, about the status of investigations into a suspicious 20-foot container discovered in Sapeiman, near Amasaman. The container was reportedly loaded with gold bars and bundles of U.S. dollars, sparking widespread public concern.

The Suhum MP demanded full disclosure regarding the outcome of the investigation and the identities of individuals involved.

In response, Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka confirmed that investigations were still ongoing and, therefore, no names or further details could be disclosed at this stage.

Following the parliamentary session, Hon. Asiedu Bekoe addressed the media, expressing dissatisfaction with the minister’s response. He described it as “vague and inconclusive,” and raised alarms over the broader implications for public safety and accountability.

“This is unfortunate. The NDC government is not treating security issues in the country with the urgency and seriousness they deserve,” he said.

The MP’s comments have reignited debate over the government’s preparedness and transparency in dealing with national security threats, especially in light of recent high-profile incidents.
