Stealing from church kitty devilish – Methodist Bishop

???????????????????????????????The Bishop of the Obuasi Diocese of the Methodist Church, Rt. Rev S.R. Bosomtwe- Ayensu has blasted members of the church who use their position to siphon church funds for their selfish gains.

‘It is sad to state that some members are very dishonest with church funds. They depend on it for their daily bread, while others craftily put up beautiful and respectively residential houses out of church’s treasury for themselves’, he stressed.

Addressing the opening session of the 17th annual synod of the church at Mt. Zion Chapel at Obuasi -Mangoase, the Bishop pointed out that some members struggle to snatch offices in the church only to siphon church’s funds and also ‘ create wealth for themselves out of the church finances’

He added that many were those in charge of church finances who did not render sincere accounts in addition to finding it difficult to inform the pastor the sum total of monies raised during a particular church activity or even a Sunday service.

Rt. Rev. Bosomtwe- Ayensu could not understand why a good number of fund- holders in the church thought it was a waste of time and unpleasant to lodge church’s fund with banks.

The Bishop added ‘we should not be surprised to learn that some members who count monies during Sunday services suppressed the cash before handing them over to the stewards or the appropriate officers’.

‘This is a clear indication of cash leakages in the church and those appointed as procurement agents even do much more harm than good to the church’

Commenting on the theme ‘stand up for the truth’ Bishop Bosomtwe –Ayensu regretted that is seeking position and posts in the church, some people were corrupted to accept monies for the purpose of fabricating lies to thwart the truth about their opponents in the struggle..

He suggested to the Minister of Finance to speak to the nation on Vat on Bank withdrawals in the local language for the understanding of the issue since a whole lot of things are being said about it ‘which is confusing the masses and compounding the problem’.

Bishop Bosomtwe- Ayensu appealed to the government to endeavor to retrieve all monies including that of GYEEDA, and SADA as well as monies involve in judgment debts to help improve the country’s economy.

There were goodwill messages from well- wishers including the Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi and Nana Asirifi Asare II, the Krontihene of Edubiase Divisional Council.
