State of Ghana boxing appalling – DK Poison

David Kotei PoisonFormer World Champion, David Kotei Poison, has lamented over the state of boxing in Ghana, saying “Ghana boxing has come down”.

D.K Poison told the Presidential Commission of Inquiry on Tuesday that the state of the sport was no longer how it used to be and wondered what the problem was.

He told the commission that he has no idea whether the problem had to do with lack of talents or coaches.

According to D.K Poison, the present generation of boxers are motivated by money and not the love for the sport.

D.K. Poison said money is ruining the sport in Ghana and there was the need to take steps to correct the system.

He however appealed to the Commission to help him retrieve his money from the state, which was used to purchase mackerel for the state.

The former World Champion, said, there was the need for the state to give a refund since the money was a loan to the state.

D. K Poison was the first Ghanaian boxer to have won a world title for Ghana. He won the World Boxing Council (WBC) Featherweight in 1975.
