Sports Ministry calls for media collaboration on lesser known sports

yammin-awardsThe ministry of Youth and Sports has called for media collaboration towards the promotion of lesser known sports.

Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, Joseph Yammin, who made the call said “the ministry is very committed to promoting and developing all sporting disciplines most especially lesser known sports”.

He was speaking at the launch of the Ghana Sports Journalist Awards 2014 held at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Accra last Friday.

The deputy minister was hopeful the re-introduction of the award will encourage journalists to live within the tenets of good journalism.

“”It is sometimes sad and unfortunate that some journalists turn to put your noble profession into disrepute by misinforming and deliberately vilifying instead of criticizing constructively”, he said and urged journalists to come together to redeem the image of their chosen profession by condemning such unprofessional acts.

He advised the vetting committee to “uphold the virtues of fairness and objectivity when vetting nominees, to ensure that award winners hold their heads high in dignity and with a good sense of pride”.
