Sowutuom Redeemer School Wins First Ever Robotics For Youth Challenge 
… Competes In Upcoming Geneva Global Event.
My Redeemer School, a Sowutuom-based Junior and Senior High School, won the first-ever Robotics For Youth Challenge in Accra last Saturday.
The school won both the junior and senior high school competitions, with other participating schools trailing despite great performances on the day.

Last Saturday’s event which was organised by The MakersPlace, officially welcomed Ghana’s participation into the global Robotics arena.
Speaking to this reporter, Mr Douglas Ayitey, Founder and CEO of The MakersPlace said the competition was a milestone event heralding Ghana’s entry into the prestigious United Nations-backed global initiative powered by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) under its AI for Good program.
He noted that the global competition has been designed to empower young minds to use technology for social impact.
Mr Ayitey revealed that the 2025 maiden edition in Ghana was to challenge students to design robotic solutions for disaster response.
The concept, he noted was to address real-world emergency scenarios while contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Details:
Over 180 students participated in the event as they representing 23 teams from schools across the country.
They competed to develop life-saving innovations and to earn coveted spots at the upcoming Global Grand Finale in Geneva, Switzerland, this July.
Some of the participating schools included Academic City University, My Redeemer School, Adisadel College, Koforidua Senior High and Technical School, St. Peter’s Mission Schools, Royal Standard Learning Centre, Joy2TheWorld International Academy, and The Oyster Academy.
Others were Amrahia Community School, Globen School, and KinderKids International School.

These institutions, according to The MakersPlace CEO, have been playing vital roles in nurturing a generation of problem-solvers who are poised to create real impact through technology.
Winners:
My Redeemer School emerged as the standout institution of the day, taking top prizes in both categories such as the Senior Category and Junior Category as well.
Other finalists included Adisadel College (Sandroid) and Joy2TheWorld International Christian Academy (Mech Crusaders) in the senior division, with KinderKids International School (The Teknos) and Amrahia Community School (ACS Tech Titans) rounding out the top junior teams.
Global Participation:
These winning teams will now represent Ghana at the AI for Good Global Summit in Geneva, Switzerland, this May.
Their prize packages include gold passes to the summit, exhibition space at the Youth Zone, and the chance to pitch their innovations to global technology leaders and policymakers.

The event also featured an impressive lineup of speakers from Ghana’s technology and education ecosystem.
Guillem Martinez Roura, AI and Robotics Programme Officer at the ITU, sent a solidarity message commending the organisers for the event.
Dzifa Gunu, CEO of Ghana Digital Centre, delivered the keynote address highlighting the importance of pushing investments into AI and robotics education in Ghanaian schools.
Richard Osei-Anim, Coral Reef Innovation Hub, and Douglas Ayitey, Founder and CEO of The MakersPlace, also addressed the participants on the potentials of using robotics to turn the fortunes of the country around.
