“Shock us to work”-Rebecca Akufo-Addo urges

The wife of the President, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo has urged the media to use the spaces and airtime they have at their disposal to mirror the ills and deprivation in the society.

This, she noted is the best way to get authorities to act more swiftly to address whatever situation or pressing matter there is to be taken care of.

Speaking at the official commissioning of the new Mother and Baby Unit block (MBU) at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Mrs Akufo-Addo said she finds fulfillment in what both the media and the Ghanaian people have done in the construction of the new block at KATH.

According to her, this will reduce the senseless deaths that were occurring at the old and congested block of the hospital.

KATH CEO:
Commending the Wife of the President for the pioneering role in getting the new edifice constructed, Dr Oheneba Owusu-Danso, the acting Chief Executive Officer at KATH noted the extreme congestion the old block which houses the MBU faced previously.

This, he mentioned affected operations at the ward since many pregnant mothers who visited did not have adequate and proper care.

However, with the completion of the new facility, the CEO said maternity, neonatal and pediatric care shall improve remarkably.

Dr Danso pledged the management’s commitment to ensuring the facility is properly taken care of so as to justify the huge investments made in the project.

HEALTH MINISTER:
Mr Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, the Minister of Health lauded the sterling effort of the first lady in securing sponsorship in the form of donations to carry out the new KATH MBU project.

He intimated the resolve of the Health Ministry to ensure such a project is maintained regularly to serve the hundreds of people and referral cases that are brought to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

The Health Minister charged the KATH Board and Management to ensure the new facility, which he christened ‘the Afia Kobi Serwaah Ampem Block’ is kept in shape since it has the potential of being a tourist center due to its unique architecture and make up.

He noted the decision of the Ministry to conduct periodic checks on the facility every three months so as to track the maintenance and care regime of the project.

BANTAMAHENE:
Baffuor Asare Owusu-Amankwatia VI, the Bantamahene, who chaired the function in the stead of the Asantehene rallied the Hospital Board and Management to take proper care of the facility.

He, however, appealed to the government to ensure they complete the 46 year old Maternity block at KATH which still stands abandoned.

This facility, he noted could erase the perennial congestion that occurs at KATH since the uncompleted facility has the potential of housing one thousand (1,000) beds.

Baffuor Amankwatia commended the first lady for her efforts and urged that the citizenry learn lessons out of her exemplary leadership.
