Shakeup at NSS: Board chair demoted & replaced

nssCredible information reaching tv3network.com indicates that the board chairman of the National Service Secretariat (NSS), madam Gifty Mahama Biyira has been removed and reassigned to the State Insurance Corporation (SIC).

In a letter dated May 4, 2015 and signed by Secretary to the President, her reassignment takes immediate effect. Her position as board chair of the National Service Secretariat is to be filled by one Nancy Dakwah Ampofo.

No reasons were assigned for the reappointment in the letter from the office of the President. According to our sources, the letter was handed to her while on her way for a board meeting yesterday. She has only served one year out of the four years on her appointment letter.

Madam Dakwah Ampofo before her recent appointment as Board Chair of the NSS, was a board member of State Insurance Corporation. This swap in position has been described by some critics as apt and necessary.

Rumors on the corridors of the National Service Secretariat indicate that there was bad blood between the outgoing board chair, Gifty Mahama Biyira and the acting Executive Director, Dr. Michael Kpesah Whyte.

There have been mixed reactions over the issue with some workers expressing disappointment in the decision to replace the board chair. Some of the staff who also spoke to tv3network.com have also indicated that she was quite effective at her position.

The National Service Secretariat was in the media for very wrong reason a few months ago following massive corruption and fraud uncovered there.

This led to the arrest of the then Executive Director, Alhaji Imoro Alhassan who is currently standing trial for his involvement in the fraud allegations leveled against him.

Several other directors of the scheme in other regions were also fingered in the corruption scandal which is currently under investigation.
