Sekyere South District: NCCE holds stakeholders’ consultative meeting, 9 institutions outline mass education needs

Nine major institutions within the Sekyere South District today met with the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) to determine viable ways of getting their educational messages to the masses.

The stakeholders’ Consultative meeting called at the instance of the NCCE was also to enable the Sekyere South District office of the Commission design their educational campaigns to meet the specific needs of the district.

The meeting brought together representatives of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Ghana Education Service (GES), Ministry of Agriculture, Department of Social Welfare, Sekyere South District Assembly, Ghana Health Service and the Ghana Police Service.

Sekyere South District Director of the NCCE; Mr. Evans Nunoo in his welcome address stated the intention of the district office of the commission to hold the consultative meeting annually. He also stressed that although a programme guide is issued by the Commission’s head office quarterly, there is the need for every office to support that with other strategic programmes that would cater for the specific needs of the people and key institutions within its jurisdiction.

Ghana Police Service
The District Crime Officer; ASP Taffah Sackey who was there for the Ghana Police Service entreated the NCCE to intensify education on the consequences of electoral violence ahead of the 2020 general election and to also encourage citizens to support the police with information on crimes and criminals.

Ghana Health Service
The Ghana Health Service wanted the NCCE to help educate the communities on hygiene and sanitation issues especially the need for people to wash their hands frequently. They also appealed for intensive sensitization on the forthcoming mass vaccination against polio that would take place from 19th to 25th February, 2020.

Ministry of Agriculture
The ministry of Agriculture pleaded with the NCCE to create awareness, especially, within the farming communities for the Free Seedlings policy and proper use of pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers.

NADMO
The National Disaster Management Organization(NADMO) needed the NCCE to caution the people against bush and domestic fires.

Sekyere South District Assembly
The Sekyere South District Assembly entreated the NCCE to educate the people on the need for them to pay their taxes especially property rates, market tolls and burial permits.

Ghana Education Service
The Ghana Education Service gave more attention to teenage pregnancy and the need to educate parents on monitoring their children’s academic performance.

Department of Social Welfare
The Department of Social Welfare wanted parents to report any bad practices at the various day care centers.
