The Ashanti regional minister, Mr Simon Osei- Mensah has stated his determination to help fight filth in the region.
According to him, modern societies are built on cleanliness.
Addressing members of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly recently during the induction of its mayor, Mr Osei Asibey Antwi the regional minister charged them to join him in this fight.
Apart from the prevention of diseases, the minister noted a clean society brews confidence in its people.
The Minister charged the assembly members to lead the way to cleaning their respective localities so as to help the public to follow suit.
Communal labour days, he suggested could be reignited in the various electoral areas so as to help in the course of having a clean environment.
According to the Minister, the public will become used to the act of having their workplaces cleaned and rid of filth if the exercise becomes a regular feature in their localities.
He, therefore, called for a concerted effort from the assembly to ensure the Kumasi metropolis becomes clean and safe.
Responding later, the Metropolitan Chief Executive for Kumasi, Mr Osei Assibey Antwi reiterated his commitment to ensuring Kumasi becomes the cleanest area in Ashanti.
