Relief for workers-State Housing Manager assures

samuel-sarpong1Government is to begin new wave of construction aimed at helping government workers and organized groups to own houses in the country.

The project, which is christened regeneration would see brand new high rise buildings being constructed in the stead of low lying homes in selected communities across the country.

Speaking to the Ghanaian Observer Newspaper on the new initiative by government, Dr Samuel Sarpong, Managing Director of the State Housing Company Limited, (SHCL)disclosed the project had commenced in the Kanda Community of the Greater Accra Region.

INITIATIVE:
According to him, government through the State Housing was trying to maximize the use of available land and space across the country.

He said the project would see the construction of 12th floor storey buildings instead of the existing one or two storey buildings in heavily populated areas across the country.

This, would mean occupants of the existing small structure being relocated to a government facility before the site is completely redeveloped to accommodate more people by the putting up of high rise structures in its place.

Currently, an Israeli Construction Company, IDM Construction have signed a deal to partner the Ghanaian Government into building about 20,000 of such houses in the Ashanti Region.

BENEFICIARIES:
Dr Sarpong mentioned organized groups such as government workers and teachers would be the primary beneficiaries of the project.
He said groups such as Ghana National Association of Teachers,(GNAT), National Association of Graduate Teachers,(NAGRAT), Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana,(CLOGSAG) and Tema Oil Refinery workers were some of the target groups for the project.

Government, the Manager noted is vigorously pursuing this project to ensure workers retire to their own homes and houses after service.

POLITICS:
Debunking claims by the New Patriotic Party,(NPP) aspiring Parliamentary Candidate for Nhyiaeso, Kennedy Kankam that he will not even get more than five votes in the November Polls at the constituency , Dr Sarpong said gone were the days people voted strictly on party lines.

He stated the electorate were awake and would carefully consider the competencies as well as the capabilities of persons seeking for their mandate before they cast their ballots for.

He stressed the Member of Parliament accolade was to fully arm him to secure more projects for the residential community, adding he was confident residents would endorse him because of the work he did at the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, (KMA) as Chief Executive and the Ashanti Region as former Minister.

LIMITED REGISTRATION:
Dr Sarpong, in a passionate tone has charged persons who have attained the allowable age of 18 years to visit the registration centers at the Nhyiaeso community and register in the publicized limited exercise.

He said this would enable them to exercise their franchise in the upcoming general election in November.

He, however, promised to visit the registration centers himself so as to whip up enthusiasm in the exercise being conducted by the Electoral Commission,(EC).
