Professor Kwesi Botchwey, one of Ghana’s most astute economists, will on Tuesday, June 3, deliver a public lecture on crucial political issues affecting Ghana’s Economy.
Professor Botchwey, who has been silent in public debates for several years, will speak on the “State of the Nation’s Political Economy and the Role of Civil Society” in the Distinguished Speaker series at the Central University College.
The eminent lawyer and economist will examine points of intersection between the economy, corruption and civil society engagements, and will offer an opinion on the economic partnership agreement.
The Distinguish Speaker Series according to the President of CUC, Professor Kwesi Yankah “provides a platform for distinguished individuals in academia and public life to share knowledge with students, faculty and the general public on issues of national and international significance”.
The maiden lecture in the series was given in November last year by Professor Adigun Agbaje of the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, on Electoral Politics in Africa, followed by Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia who in March this year shared his opinion on Restoring the Value of the Cedi.
Dr. Botchwey’s lecture will be the third in the series.
Prof. Kwesi Botchwey is a former Professor of Practice in Development Economics at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy of Tufts University.
He was Ghana’s Minister of Finance and Economic Planning from 1982 to 1995. Currently, Professor Botchwey is Chairman of the Ghana National Gas Company and Chairman of the Economic Committee of the Global Coalition for Africa, among other positions.
