Political party afiliation now hereditary – Political Science lecturer

Multi-Party GovernancePolitical scientist at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST); Samuel Adu Gyamfi believes Ghanaians depend on partisan politics in making various forms of decisions.

According to him Ghanaians depend solely on the ideologies given by their political parties without descenting into the view of other political parties to consider if their views will be of a greater help to the country.

Speaking on Royal fm’s yeresuadee morning show he emphatically noted that ‘‘politics in Ghana has turned into politics of affiliation. One is not ready to accept the views of the other. This has made Ghanaians to think less during elections’’.

He noted that joining a political party is now being considered a hereditary process.

‘‘We have jumped from scientific and empirical analysis and returned to some form of orthodoxy, some magic realm whereby all our decisions are planned on satisfying some trivial and whimsical interest of a political party’’.

He is saddened that at this stage Ghanaians still don’t have discerning voters.

He entreats all Ghanaians to think about the nation first to facilitate nation building.
