Planned demonstration in Tema over attempt to appoint Asare Kwasi Darko to lead TDC

Tema and neighboring communities are set to demonstrate against Mr. Asare Kwasi Darko’s appointment as MD of TDC.

Some NDC members behind the planned demonstration argue that Mr. Asare Kwasi Darko is an NPP politician whose leadership of the Tema Development Corporation (TDC) would not augur well for President Mahama.

They also say that Mr. Darko is currently in court against the same organization he seeks to lead and raise questions of how he can seek to lead an institution he is legally challenging.

Angry NDC folks within the Tema enclave suspect that a prominent figure is lobbying at the presidency for his appointment based on parochial interests. They believe that his appointment will not benefit TDC in anyway and insist that any attempt to impose him on them will backfire.

Some of them who spoke to this reporter revealed that Mr. Darko was previously involved in the illegal sale of lands for which reason he was dismissed from TDC after thorough investigation and disciplinary protocols.

Letter of dismissal over alleged misconduct

The agitated NDC members from Tema central , Tema East, Tema West, and Ashaiman implored the President to ensure that the selection of a leader for TDC is based on qualifications and merit and not political maneuvering and cronyism.

When Mr. Asare Kwasi Darko was contacted for his side of the story, he said ” as far as I know, it is the prerogative of the President, John Dramani Mahama to appoint MDs. So how does one vie for such a position, which is supposed to be appointed by the President?”

A Senior staff member of TDC who spoke on the condition of anonymity confirmed that some persons were having legal issues with TDC at the Tema High Court and Mr. Darko is part but the legal matter is pivoted on procedural breaches and miscommunication.

The angry NDC folks tell this reporter that as grassroots people of the NDC, they held it a duty to ensure the interest of the party which is now in government and “will not sit aloof for some businessman to influence the imposition of Mr. Darko on them due to his own illegal land dealings within the Tema area.
