Pedestrians fear being run over by vehicles following demolition of Foot Bridge at Nkrumah Circle

footbridgeThe overhead foot bridge at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle was demolished in the early hours of today to pave way for the construction of an overpass as part of the Circle Interchange project.

An overpass with a new foot bridge is being built behind the Circle Neoplan Station to connect motorists who use the station to the Nsawam Road as well as pedestrians.

Significant work has been carried out on the foundations of the interchange. So far, three out of the four support piers for the Nsawam-Kwame Nkrumah Avenue have been completed.

Speaking to LIVE NEWS, traders whose businesses were located right around the now demolished overhead footbridge say their structures were damaged in the process of the demolition. Engineers used explosives to bring down the popular Circle foot bridge.
The traders lso complain their business has been affected as a result.

The demolition of the bridge has made crossing the busy six-lane dual carriage road a risky and difficult task.
