Paramount Chief of Adansi traditional area bares teeth at MMDCEs over community mining

Paramount Chief of Adansi; Opagyakotwere  Bonsra Afriyie II

The Paramount chief of the Adansi traditional area , Opagyakotwere  Bonsra Afriyie II , has warned sub chiefs in Adansi not to allow any District chief executive or government appointee to use their land for community mining without any proper consultation and legal  documentation and also not make it easy for illegal mining also known as galamsey to thrive in the area.

He issued the caution at a meeting he had summoned with the MMDCEs in the locale. The visibly angry chief chastised them for sidestepping the chiefs in their dealings regarding land.

He expressed worry over the actions and inaction of the Six MMDCEs in the Adansi area towards illegal mining and threatened to deal ruthlessly with any chief who would facilitate illegal mining on Adansi lands ,

According to the Adansihene, the Municipal and District chief executives in the Adansi area have initiated community mining without the involvement of the chiefs who are the custodians of the land, while giving a small portion to the youth and allocate a bigger portion to foreigners which he said is against the law. He added that no Municipal or district chief executive has the authority to initiate or engage in Community mining in the traditional area without consulting the chiefs and spelt out the conditions governing the community mining operations in the area .

In view of this the Adansi traditional council summoned all the 6 Municipal and districts chief executives to Fomena palace to brief the house about the Community mining issues in the area but they failed to attend except the DCE for Akrofuom, Jonas Maurice Woode. Their absence angered the Adansihene who vowed to take legal action against any DCE cited on any of the Adansi lands in the name of community mining .

Opagyakotwere Bonsra Afriyie II warned that he will not tolerate any disrespect from any government appointee and added that the title honorable on the MMDCEs must be scrapped off because they do not deserve to be called Honorable like the elected Members of Parliament .

The district Chief Executive of Adansi Akrofuom , Jonas Maurice Woode pleaded with the chiefs on behalf of his colleagues who were not able to honor the invitation.

The Adansihene and the security agencies in the area have recently come together and embarked on a campaign to flush out illegal miners in the area.
