NPP flagbearer aspirant, Alan Kyeremanteng will do his political ambitions a great disservice if he were to opt out of the flagbearership race of the opposition party, the Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Kwaku Baako has said.
According to him, such a decision will be a “casualty” for the political aspirations of the former Ghana’s ambassador to the US.
There are calls on the former trade minister to opt out of the party’s October 18 conference intended to elect a flagbearer for the 2016 elections, following his abysmal performance in Sunday’s super delegates’ congress.
Kyeremanten, who was seen as a front-runner in the first phase of the elections, managed just 7.97% of total votes cast – a performance which surprised even his own camp.
Two-time flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo won the day with an overwhelming 80.89% of votes meant to reduce the number of aspirants from seven to five, as stipulated by the party’s constitution in circumstances where more than five people run for the slot.
Speaking on Peace FM, Wednesday, Mr Baako said the former ambassador shouldn’t have joined the race if he was not sure of going the full hall.
“It’s too late for Alan to forgo the October conference. It would have been better if he had not joined at all. He has gone too far to pull out. Any attempt to opt out will be a major casualty to his political future. The October conference must take place” he stated.
