No witch-hunting-Dr. Ato Arthur assures Directors

The Head of Local Government Services (LGS), Dr Nana Ato Arthur has assured coordinating directors in the country that there will be no room for any witch-hunting in the discharge of their legitimate duties.

Rather, he has asked that directors in the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies(MMDAs) in similar fashion administer their offices and outfits with utmost professionalism.

”I will not witch-hunt anybody and truthfully I have no reason or motivation to do so because i know you are professionals in your own right who are determined to apply the knowledge you have acquired to help build a better country”, Dr Arthur assured.

He, therefore, urged the coordinators to work with open minds to engender confidence within themselves and the workers at the assembly.

” One thing I would ask from you that everyone deploys his or best to ensure the development of your respective localities because Ghanaians are very expectant of us” the Local Government Head appealed.

Addressing a day’s familiarization forum in Kumasi, Dr Arthur said it was important for his outfit to have periodic engagements with coordinators and heads of public insititutions so as to enable it to know the challenges, bottlenecks and bureaucracies the respective MMDA’s may be facing in the discharge of their functions.

VISION:
Speaking about his vision for the Local Government Service, Dr Arthur said he was focused in using innovative measures such as Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to improve revenue generation in the

MMDA’s.
According to him, in such a rapidly changing world there is no need to still use old ways of collecting revenue when a better and efficient way could be deployed in doing so.

He promised to ensure that periodic workshops are organized to shore up the level of knowledge amongst workers at the local government service.

This, he stressed would enable workers to work more efficiently and act sharper in attending to the myriad of issues at the assembly.

DEPUTY MINISTER:
On her part, Madam Elizabeth Agyemang, Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister noted the importance of the local government system.

The system and the decentralization process of the country, Madam Agyemang reiterated was the best pivot on which the development of the country could be engineered on.

She, therefore, expressed hope that the forum would engender the sort of professionalism the local government system needed to ensure effective revenue mobilization and development.

The Deputy Minister also called on the LGS to come up with effective ways of generating and mobilizing revenue for the development of the country.
