New Parliamentary Chamber: Adansi Youth want apology from KT Hammond

A group calling itself the Adansi Youth for Social Development are calling on Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa; KT Hammond to render an apology his constituents and Ghanaians for his “Parliament cannot sit under trees” comment.

They believe their MP’s comment is an insult to many teachers teaching pupils under trees as well as other under-resourced professionals. They are sad their MP is championing the building of a new chamber for Parliament estimated to cost around $200m whiles there are unmotorable roads and several development problems in his constituency.

They also accused KT Hammond of taking the people of Adansi Asokwa for granted. “This is his third term in Parliament but he has done absolutely nothing for his people” they told Oheneba Asiedu on Fox FM’s morning show on Monday.

The youth say they will stage a demonstration against the MP and if that does not cause him to apologise and fulfill his promises to his people, they will try to replace him as MP.

The Adansi Youth for Social Development has been in existence for close to a year and seeks to champion the development of the Adansi area.

Most Ghanaians expressed anger at the idea of a new Chamber for the Parliament they believe is very comfortable. In an attempt to defend the project, the Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa commented that “Parliament cannot sit under trees”; a comment that has infuriated people the more including some youth of his constituency.
