NDC on tenterhooks as gov’t investigates state agencies

Some members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) are said to be sitting on coals of fire as the NPP government underscores its desire to review all late contracts and appointments made during the dying embers of the transition period.

Speaking at last Friday’s parliamentary vetting committee meeting, Mr Yaw Osafo-Maafo, Senior Minister designate gave hints that the government would be reviewing all appointments made to agencies, departments and Boards by the former NDC administration.

The nominee noted all late enrollment and designations to institutions such as National Health Insurance Secretariat (NHIS), Ghana Cocobod, Ghana National Petroleum Company and the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) would be reviewed.

According to him, not only were these late appointments unnecessary but something done in bad faith by the previous administration.

ROT:
The senior minister designate said the new government was determined to stem the rot at these agencies and departments.

According to him, the government will demand efficient output from public sector workers and therefore the need to get competent people in such places.

He noted any person who had been appointed in the late hour of the out-going government’s term would be assessed thoroughly so as to prove his or her efficiency level.

This, he noted was to do away with wrong personnel in critical sectors of public office as the government strives to ensure total efficiency.

TEACHER AND NURSES ALLOWANCE:
Touching on the desire of government to restore the teacher and nurses allowances, Mr Maafo said restoring these allowances will no way affect the budget or the GDP of the country.

He underscored the importance of it, noting it is the best way to motivate people to branch into both nursing and the teaching fields.

The country, the nominee stated needed a highly skilled labor force so as to maximize its human resource potential for socio-economic growth.

He, therefore, disclosed trainees under both fields will have their allowances restored in the upcoming budget and subsequently.
