NDC B/A Regional delegates congress ends

NDCThe Brong-Ahafo Regional Delegate’s Congress of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), ended peacefully in Sunyani at the weekend.

Though there was little misunderstanding among supporters of some candidates due to alleged infractions prior to the voting, the party leadership in the region was able to bring the situation under control.

About 400 delegates of the party, including some Members of Parliament (MPs), as well as Municipal and District Chief Executives, drawn from the 27 constituencies in the region, cast their votes under an atmosphere of peace and tranquility.

There was some few police and military personnel to maintain law and order, at the forecourt of the residency, where the elections were conducted.

Mr Opoku Atuahene, was re-elected as the Regional Chairman, when he obtained 207 votes to beat Kofi Manu, his other contestant, who had 91 votes, with Nana Agyei Ntow securing one vote.

The position of the Vice Chairman went to Unas Owusu who had 180 votes, while Vida Boatema Anning secured 126 votes to win the Vice Chairperson slot. They competed with five other candidates.

Mr Dennis Yeboah Twumasi was elected as the regional secretary with 226 votes, by beating his only contender Kwame Anning Frimpong, who had 76 votes, while Ahenkwah Fredrick was elected as the Deputy Regional Secretary.

Mohammed Seidu popularly known as “Maha” was elected as the Regional Organizer after obtaining 189 votes to beat Alhaji Baba Gausu who had 110 votes.

The Deputy Regional Organiser position went to Richard Osei-Kumi who secured 147 votes to beat his two other contestants, with Amo Parku Clement securing 193 votes as the Treasurer.

Joseph Abonkra Manu was elected as the Deputy Treasurer with 134 votes.

Elias Sfeir shocked the party supporters after obtaining 159 votes to defeat Mr Collins Mahama, incumbent Propaganda Secretary who had 89 votes, with Prince Diawuo the other contestant having 55 votes.

Deputy Propaganda Secretary went to Comfort Ackah, who had 146 votes, while Deputy Youth Organiser went to John Ayaaba who who obtained 59 votes.

Mr Kwado Takyi-Arhin was elected as the Youth Organiser with 29 votes, while Georgina Puopiel was elected as the Deputy Women Organiser with 49 votes.

Mr Eric Opoku, Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister advised the newly elected regional executives to work closely with the defeated candidates to widen the fortunes of the party in 2016.

He said it would not be all that easy for the party to retain power in the general elections and there was the need for all members and supporters of the party to come together, plan and strategise well for effective campaign.
