NADMO is ready to deal with floods but……

yamminThe National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) says it is ready to deal with any challenges the weather may bring as the rains begin.

Many in various parts of the country especially the capital Accra are always uneasy during the rainy season because of the constant predictable havoc wreaked by flood waters.

Deputy National NADMO Coordinator, Joseph Yammin however wants Ghanaians to calm down and work more towards prevention of the any form of disaster. He explains that though his outfit is ready and able to provide relief for disaster victims. “Prevention is better than cure. People should help themselves to avoid some of these disasters. If there are choked drains in your neighborhood, organize and clear them because it is better to be safe than sorry”, he said. He says it is important to be mindful of floods and other disasters and work towards safeguarding against those that are preventable especially since NADMO can never be able to plan accurately for disasters considering their unpredictable nature.

Joseph Yammin, in an interview with rawgist.com explains that Military Engineers have been strategically positioned close to flood prone areas to help disaster victims and help save lives in cases of life-threatening situations.  He also explained that relief items are being moved to strategic locations to enable quick and easy deployment during disasters.

He was full of praise for the central government who he says always steps in to help in cases where NADMOs budget is inadequate in a disaster situation. ” There is never adequate funding but if it is beyond NADMO budget, Central government steps in to help and so far, they have been seriously committed to the plight of the organization and disaster victims in the country.
