NACOB Board: Dr. Akwasi Osei challenges Mahama’s dissolution

DrAkwesi-OseiThe Chief Psychiatrist at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital, and a member of the dissolved board of the Narcotics Control Board, (NACOB), Dr. Akwasi Osei has described President Mahama’s decision as a “knee-jerk reaction”.

According to him, the president’s quick decision to dissolve the NACOB Board clearly showed a lack of understanding of the issues at the Presidency.

President Mahama dissolved the 17-member board after a statement indicated that NACOB collaborated with its UK partners in the arrest of Nayele Ametefeh, who was busted at the Heathrow Airport with 12.5kg of cocaine.

UK officials in Ghana however responded by saying even though they have collaborated on several issues with NACOB there was collaboration in the arrest of Ametefeh.

Former Board chairman for NACOB, Naval Captain (Retired) Baffour Assasie-Gyimah, has already slammed the President for dissolving the board.

Speaking to TV3 in an interview, Dr Akwasi Osei said Mahama decision showed that he did not fully understand the issues.

“What he did was a knee-jerk reaction,” the Chief Psychiatrist said, adding, ”We need to take time to understand the issues…Once you make a statement that seems to make it [appear] that you know when you really don’t know, it creates a problem.”
