N/R: Security Imposes Curfew on Chereponi, Saboba After Violence Outbreak

Following the outbreak of violence in Chereponi and Saboba Township in the Northern Region of Ghana, the Minister for Interior, Mr. Ambrose Dery has on the advise of the Northern Regional Security Council and by executive instrument imposed a curfew on the two main communities and their environs.

The curfew began 4:00pm to 7:00am effective Thursday, January 3, 2019.

The outbreak of the violence arose from clashes between two ethnic groups, Kokomba and Chokosis.

A statement released by the Ministry of the Interior on Thursday indicated that government was urging the people of the area to exercise restrains in the face of the challenges confronting them.

‘’Government continues to urge Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth and People of the area to exercise restrain in the face of the challenges confronting them as ell as to use non-violence means to channel their energies into ensuring peace in the area,” the statement stated.

Meanwhile, the statement emphasized that there’s been a total ban on all persons in the afore mentioned communities and its environs from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapons.

According to the Minister of the interior, any person found with any arms or ammunitions, will be arrested and prosecuted.
