MTN partners Chiefs and people of Bonwire for Kente Festival

MTN presenting cheque to Bonwire Traditional Council

Kente Festival-MTN Ghana has expressed her appreciation for the spirit of entrepreneurship again by supporting the Bonwire Kente Festival.

The telecommunication Company donated a cash amount of seven thousand Ghana Cedis, five hundred cedis worth of airtime, routers, drink hampers and other items to traditional authorities at Bonwire as MTN’s support for the celebration.

MTN’s main Distributor in the Ashanti region; Ashcell also sponsored the Beauty Pageant organized as part of the festival with prizes for the winner, first and second runners-up.

Donating the items at the Chief’s Palace, Commercial Manager for MTN’s Northern Business District; Mr. Peter Bimpeh stated that the essence of the Kente festival cannot be overlooked.

He hinted that MTN valued the entrepreneurship that accompanied the value chain of kente. “MTN is associated with this festival because we are particularly enthused about the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit associated with this festival.  As an African multinational company, MTN, among other values, believes in the ‘Can Do’ and innovative spirit which has translated into the success story of the company spreading to about twenty-two countries currently, employing several people directly and indirectly and more importantly contributing to developing the economies of these nations” he said.

He used the opportunity to also highlight the fact that MTN has been adjudged GIPC Club 100 number one company of the year, , overall CSR Company of the Year 2018,  the Best Company in Women Empowerment and Best Company in Economic Empowerment amongst many others.

Bonwirehene’s Linguist; Nana Kofi Kwarteng who received a dummy check for seven thousand cedis from MTN on behalf of the traditional council expressed gratitude for MTN’s partnership and promised the donation will be put to good use to make the festival a great success.

The Bonwire Kente Festival began on Monday and is expected to come to a climax on Saturday and end with a thanksgiving service on Sunday. Some activities undertaken to mark the celebration include Cooking competition, Games, Quiz competition, Bragro (Puberty rites) as well as a beauty pageant. There was also a colourful Kente exhibition at the Bonwire Senior High School to showcase the rich kente produced by the people of Bonwire.
