The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), according to the Member of Parliament (MP) for Obuasi West Constituency, Kwaku Kwarteng is financially handicapped due to huge financial debts by government.
He says government has failed to exhibit the needed commitment to the country’s energy needs over the years hence the worsening situation of erratic power supply.
The country has been experiencing energy crises for over a year now which is hurting industries and local businesses.
Although government has given the assurance it is taking measures to control the power situation, the problem still persists.
Kwaku Kwarteng notes that the demand for power in the country is not matched by supply, adding that, Ghana’s power companies are failing to respond to the future demands of power consumers. He says the ECG as it stands now has lost its credit worthiness due to its own internal challenges that has been made worse by government exposing it to low investment.
Kwaku Kwarteng is has charged government to quickly respond to the country’s declining energy sector to save the country from its economic challenges.
