The Management of the Metro Mass Transit company has begun investigations into how buses have disappeared from the company.
The investigation follows a petition by workers of the company, Managing Director Noble Appiah told Joy News’ Francisca Kakra Forson.
Twelve buses belonging to the company cannot be traced.
Six of the vehicles from the Tamale yard, four from Kumasi and two from Wa have reportedly gone missing.
Nhyira FM’s Ohemeng Tawiah, who broke the story about the missing vehicles, said three of the buses registered with fleet numbers 2050, 2072 and 2085 were spotted at private fitting shops.
On Saturday, the 2085 vehicle was seen in MMT colours at the workshop in Aduman junction on the Kumasi Offinso road.
The next day, however, the colour of the vehicle had changed to silver with a welder known only as Richie busily working on the vehicle.
The workers at the Tamale yard, led by its union leader Abdul Mumeen Mohammed are demanding an explanation from the management about the whereabouts of six of the vehicles.
He said some of the vehicles were auctioned without due process, alleging the said auctioned buses had been repaired and had found their way back on the road.
He said if those buses had been sent to the Neoplan bus terminal for repairs, they would have still remained the property of MMT.
But Dickson Dzeho who heads the Wa MMT has vehemently denied allegations that two of the vehicles have gone missing.
He explained the two vehicles were in a state of total disrepair and were auctioned in the full glare of the public.
He said the auctioned vehicles were reduced to scraps, insisting there was no way those vehicles would find their way back on the road.
Meanwhile, one of the alleged missing vehicles has been intercepted by the Police in Mamponteng in the Ashanti Region.
The bus which had fleet number 2042, was intercepted by police personnel at Atimatim-Chairman junction in the Afigya Kwabre District off the Kumasi-Mampong road, after officials the MMT had trailed it.
Noble Appiah admitted some of his workers have breached the necessary procedures governing the administration of the vehicles assuring that due process would be followed in dealing with them.
