Ministry of Education expresses shock at high level of fraud at National Service Scheme

NSSThe Ministry of Education has expressed shock and disgust at the high levels of fraud perpetuated at the National Service Scheme.

Investigations into activities at the scheme became necessary following reports that a total of GH¢7.9 million was paid to over 20,000 “ghost names” in more than 100 districts in July 2014.

The rot which is believed to be deeply rooted and nationwide follows reports that 23 directors of the NSS including the National Director, Alhaji Imoro Alhassan, allegedly paid GH¢200,000 as bribe to investigators of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) to kill the story.

Speaking on the Friday edition of the Super Morning Show, the Deputy Minister of Education, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa described the development as “very disturbing, worrying [and] unconscionable” and said all those found culpable will be made to face the full rigours of the law.

“It defeats the purpose why this national service was established,” he told host, Kojo Yankson.

Meanwhile checks by this writer indicates that the Executive Director of the national service Scheme, Alhaji Imoro Alhassan together with two other directors, Michael Kumbour, director of finance and Fiifi Osibonta the director of IT have been sacked from office for their various roles in the gargantuan fraud at the scheme.
