Minister of Health says more needs to be done towards achieving zero occurrence of maternal mortality

Mercy-Johnson-babyThe Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyemang Mensah has indicated that government was redoubling efforts aimed at reducing maternal mortality in country in line with the Millennium Development Goals.

The Millennium Development Goal 5 seeks to reduce significantly maternal mortality and achieve universal access to health care by 2015.

Speaking during the opening ceremony for a two-day stakeholders forum organized by the National Health Insurance Authority to review the benefit package under the National Health Insurance Scheme here in Accra, the Health Minister noted that though some successes have been achieved reducing maternal mortality a lot more needs to be done.

He said the ministry has begun implementing some measures to ensure that the country entirely eradicates maternal mortality.
