Chief Akwannuasa Gyimah, MCE for Asokwa Municipal Assembly.

Chief Akwannuasa Gyimah, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Asokwa Municipal Assembly with support of the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Madam Patricia Appiagyei, on Tuesday, June 09, 2020 cut the sod for the construction of road networks within the municipality.

In all, Atonsu-Bokro, one of the communities with the worse road networks in the municipality, would benefit from a total of 4.1 kilometres under the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme (GSCSP) within the next seven month.

MUNICIPAL CHIEF EXECUTIVE:
Addressing a durbar of chiefs and people of Asokwa at a short sod cutting ceremony on Tuesday at Atonsu Bokro,Chief Akwannuasa said some of the communities within the municipality have challenges with their road networks with some becoming unreachable particularly during the raining season.

The road project, therefore, he noted, was to come to the aid of residents through the construction of a first road network to make life easier and comfortable for them.

He noted that it is the objective of the government to tar all the roads networks in the country but since “Rome was not built in a day, it would be a gradual process.”

The MCE said it is now the turn of the Asokwa to benefit from a first class road network from the project to improve on its road network.

Aside the Atonso-Bokro, one of the communities with the worst road network in the municipality, he said the Gyinase and Asokwa would also benefit from road network improvement.

The MCE intimated that the Asoskwa Municipality itself would also be benefiting from a total of 10km of road network in the Kumasi Inner Ring Road and Adjacent Streets Project which was launched by the Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in December last year.

COMPENSATION:
Chief Akwannuasa warned those who have erected kiosks along the roads to remove them and pave way for construction works to start.

He noted that the government would not pay compensation to anyone whose kiosk would be affected by the road works and pleaded with the traditional leaders not to lead anyone to the assembly to seek compensation.

That, according to him, would not be countenanced as “permit to erect kiosk is a temporary one and could be withdrawn at any time.”

COMMENDATION:
The MCE commended the MP for the area, Madam Appiagyei for always lobbying for the development of the area and called on the people to continue to support her in all her endeavours to bring more development to Asokwa.

MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT:
In her address, Ms Appiagyei said since Asokwa became a municipality, it has benefited from its fair share of the national cake unlike previously when it was under Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA).

She was grateful that she has been able to fulfil her promise to the electorate of lobbying for the constituency to become a district on its own and believed that the current project of road network, was part of those promises made.

PM ISSUES:
Madam Appiagyei noted that the absence of a Presiding Member (PM) at the assembly was affecting the developmental work of the municipality and called on the assembly members to bury their differences and come together to elect a PM and allow for work to progress.

HIGHLIGHT:
The Atonsu-Bokro in the Asokwa Municipality is benefiting from a 4.1 km of road under the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme.
