Mahama to launch family welfare policy

john-mahamaPresident John Mahama will today launch the Child and Family Welfare Policy (CFWP).

The policy will, among other things, establish an effective child protection system in the country.

Children in Ghana continue to face numerous challenges including maltreatment, corporal punishment, domestic violence, sexual abuse and exploitation.

The policy which was developed by the Gender, Children and Social Protection Ministry will promote a reformed child protection system in Ghana through child and family welfare programmes.

It will also undertake activities which will effectively prevent and protect children from all forms of violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation.

It will further reform existing laws and policies to conform to the new vision for child and family welfare to ensure the provision of adequate resources for the functioning of the child and family Welfare service at all levels.

In Ghana, fishing communities are said to be responsible for recruiting a large number of children, who are either sold or involuntarily taken from their communities, and exploit them as child labourers.

  1. But will this policy protect children from the rampant noise pollution in Ghana that almost nobody wants to stop or can stop?
