Okada Riders at Jacobu in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region have declared their support for former President John Dramani Mahama ahead of 2020 elections following the promise to legalize and regulate the Okada business.
The NDC in its 2020 manifesto has promised to legalize and regulate the Okada business when voted into power.
Okada has become a major source of transport in Jacobu due to poor deplorable road network in the district.
The Okada Riders in an interview with Pure FM’s Osei Kwadwo explained that legalization and regulation of Okada will help reduce illegal mining activities in the district.
According to them, majority of the youth in Amansie Central District engage in illegal mining activities due to lack of jobs in the district.
“Some people have been arrested while others have lost their lives due to galamsey but we have no other job to do. Those of us who engaged in Okada business are feeling comfortable as compare to galamsey business” they said.
Okada riders added that Former President John Dramani Mahama’s vision to legalize and regulate Okada business will create employment and reduce unnecessary motor accidents.
