Lands Minister Orders the Decentralization of the Lands Commission

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Mr. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has directed the Lands Commission to decentralize its operations within the next two months in a bold move to tackle inefficiencies in land administration.

The initiative aims to resolve persistent issues such as bureaucratic delays, inaccessibility, and land disputes that have long frustrated citizens.

He gave this directive during the ministry’s maiden inter-agency retreat last Friday in Ada.

He noted that decentralizing the Commission’s operations will improve efficiency and rebuild public confidence in our ability to manage land resources fairly and effectively

“Land is a vital asset for our people, and it is unacceptable that Ghanaians must travel long distances to regional capitals just to access basic land services,” he emphasized.

The Minister tasked Prof. Anthony Owusu-Ansah, the newly appointed Acting Executive Secretary of the Lands Commission, with leading the decentralization process.

Prof. Owusu-Ansah is expected to ensure that all district offices are fully operational and equipped to handle land registrations, title certifications, and dispute resolutions within the given timeframe.

Accepting the challenge, Prof. Owusu-Ansah pledged his commitment to the Minister’s vision. “We will ensure that every Ghanaian, regardless of location, has access to efficient and professional land services.

This decentralization marks the beginning of a transformed Lands Commission, and one that is responsive and truly serves the people,” he stated.

The directive signals a major shift in Ghana’s land administration system, promising greater accessibility, transparency, and accountability in the sector. If successfully implemented, the move could significantly reduce delays and disputes, fostering smoother land transactions nationwide.
