Lovers of Kumawood movies can now watch their preferred local movies on their mobile devices.
This stride was made possible by a collaboration involving Kumawood film producers, MTEC Communications and Mobile telephony giant MTN.
The Mobile Application that makes it all possible was launched Wednesday at the Golden Bean Hotel in Kumasi.
General Manager in charge of Consumer Marketing at MTN, Mr Noel Kojo-Ganson, explains that the Kumawood App is MTN’s way of showcasing Ghanaian movies to the world and helping the Ghanaian movie industry keep pace with other movie industries across the globe.
The Kumawood App allows subscribers to buy time spans within which they can watch any kumawood movie on the platform at an affordable rate.
“Consumers would have the opportunity to buy daily, weekly, monthly and annual packs to watch movies. It is relatively cheaper on the side of the customer and also remember that if we don’t make it cheap for the customer to be able to view, it is a volume gained. The more people you get on the platform, the better it is for the players within this App,” he stated.
The CEO of MTEC Communications (developers of the App) Chimeru Mbonu expects the app to take Ghanaian movies to the rest of Africa and the world since this is the first of such Apps. He explains his company’s plans to role similar Apps around Africa based on the success of the Kumawood App. He entreated Ghanaians to patronize the App on google playstore.
Representatives of Kumawood expressed excitement at the prospects the App brings. Producers believe firmly that the App will enable them cut costs and make better returns on their investments.
Sam Darko; a Kumawood movie producer revealed that the reduced marketing cost the App offers producers makes it even more appealing.
