Kumasi residents cry over excessive electricity bills, ECG says they should brace themselves to pay more

ECGAshanti Regional PR Manager of the Electricity Company of Ghana has asked consumers of power to brace themselves to pay more with the installation of smart meters by his outfit.

“Unlike the old meters, consumers now are charged for every small unit used to even charge a mobile phone”, Erasmus Kyere Baidoo revealed.

ECG has currently installed smart meters in some households in the regional capital, Kumasi for easy reading and billing of units consumed by customers.

Residents of Santase, Fankyenebra, Denyame, Nyhiaeso  who are on these meters are complaining about the astronomical bills received monthly. They say their electricity costs have suddenly jumped in leaps and bounds from what they used to pay. Some believe they have been overbilled whiles others want the company to take a careful look at the meters.

But the PR Manager explains this may be due to the number of mobile phones and other electrical gadgets charged.

He wants customers to report all issues to their Compliant Centers at all ECG offices while calling for debtors to settle their debts with the company before it got too late.
