KNUST:Postgraduate Student Entrepreneurs to receive GHC 100, 000 from GRASAG & NEIP

Ghana News–20 postgraduate students of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology are set to receive GHC 100, 000 to support their businesses.

On 17th November, 2017, the KNUST chapter of Graduate Students Association of Ghana (GRASAG-KNUST) launched one of its flagship projects dubbed “GRASAG/NEIP Entrepreneurship competition”. A number of postgraduate student of the university applied and went through series of trainings to equip them with adequate skills needed to make their businesses thrive. Speaking at the launching,  the president of GRASAG-KNUST, Abraham Poku-Adu intimated that the initiative by the Association is to help create more jobs and reduce the unemployment rate facing the country.

Speaking to some participants after their pitching, they indicated that taking part in the entrepreneurship competition has been very helpful. They further added that getting funding  will help expand their businesses.

The head of the entrepreneurship committee, Francis Mintah Dadzie in an interview on Focus FM said out of the number of students who applied and have gone through various stages, 20 of them will be given financial support. According to him, the ultimate winner will receive GHC 10, 000 while the 19 others will receive GHC 5000 each. He says their prizes will be given to them during the GRASAG-KNUST handing over ceremony which is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 16th May, 2018. Francis further indicated that those who went through the training will all be assigned mentors to help develop their businesses or business ideas.

GRASAG-KNUST received a sponsorship package of GHC 50, 000 from National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Plan (NEIP) and the Association also supported with GHC 50, 000.
