KNUST Law School Elects ‘Part-Time’ Students As President and Vice for the First Time.
Broadcast Journalist, Master Evans Osei-Bonsu, has been elected as the President of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology’s (KNUST) Law Students’ Union (LSU).
Mr. Osei-Bonsu, a practicing journalist with over 12 years experience emerged as the first ever ‘part-time’ student to win the LSU elections with a running-mate who was not only a female, but also a ‘part-time’ student.
He garnered 289 votes representing 47.69% out of the total valid votes cast in the keenly contested elections.
His two closest contenders, Mr. Eleazer Poku Addae Owusu and Daryl N.A Vanderpuye, obtained 161 votes representing 26.56% and 146 votes representing 24.09% respectively, out of the total 606 valid votes cast.

The KNUST Law School has been divided into two streams of students; the ‘regular students’ who directly are recruits from Senior High Schools, and ‘evening students’ christened as ‘part-time’ students, comprising of persons with advanced learning certificates like 1st degree, masters degree or PhD holders.
In the almost 20 years of the KNUST’s Law School history, the student leadership front has been mostly led by ‘regular’ students with an occasional blend of a regular student as the main president and a part-time student as running mate or vice-versa.
However, the jinx was broken this time around where two students’ who are christened ‘part-timers’ emerged victorious as President and Veep of the LSU Community.
Background Of LSU President:
Evans Osei-Bonsu is a product of Opoku Ware School.
He holds a Bachelors’ degree in Political Science from KNUST, where he further served as a Teaching Assistant (TA) for his compulsory National Service.
Osei-Bonsu is a Broadcast Journalist with Angel Broadcasting Network’s Pure FM in Kumasi.
He is the Producer of seasoned Broadcaster, Kwame Adinkrah, who is the ‘Morning Show’ Host of Pure FM.
Previous Work Experience:
Previously, he worked with Angel FM-Kumasi and Kessben FM, Kumasi.
He has several awards to his credit for his illustrious, selfless, discipline and dedicated work ethics.
Running Mate:
Esther Ohemaa Kwakye, the Vice President also holds a first-class degree in Economics from KNUST.
She is a product of St. Monicas Senior High School in the Ashanti region of Ghana.

The duo are committed to leveraging on the resources from within the working group of students to advance the cause of the Faculty.
They have pledged to work to develop the faculty befitting its public image.
