Imminent mass demolition at Old Tafo as leaders roll out development plans

demolitionSome residents of Old Tafo in Kumasi will soon be forced to vacate land they are illegally occupying.

Traditional and opinion leaders of the town are set to roll out innovative programmes to transform the
community.

They include a proper layout to avert disaster such as fire, and also improve emergency response.

Old Tafo is one of the most densely-populated suburbs of Kumasi.

Several randomly- constructed houses due to the rising population have raised a lot of concerns from
residents who fear it poses great danger.

Community leaders fear any natural disaster could expose people to unpleasant situations due to
inaccessibility.

To address the challenge, development planning committees have been inaugurated with the objective of
re-designing the community for social development.

One of the committees would largely look into the infrastructure and reengineering of residential
accommodation to create access roads to communities.

Other committees include legal, health and education whose heads will deal with land litigation,
sanitation and falling standard of education in the area.

Chief of Tafo, Nana Akuoko Frempong Nuamah the first, and urged residents to rally behind the
committees.
