“I have never seen the inside of a galamsey pit before-Yammin”

yamminFormer Ashanti Regional Minister Hon.Joseph Yammin has rubbished claims of having small scale miners working for him in the western region.

He says most people use his name for protection especially his close associates.

Yammin in an interview on Royal FM revealed emphatically that ‘‘I have never seen the inside of a galamsey pit before’’.

According to him the first time he saw a pit was when he led a deleghation of chiefs to arrest illegal miners.

He explains that he is so determined to fight the phenomenon of galamsey that even the Chinese illegal miners fear him and shiver at news of his being part of any task force on galamsey. “I make sure they are deported”, he says.

According to him during the few months of his stay as the Deputy Ashanti regional minister,20 chinese were deported for engaging in illegal mining.

Hon. Yammin noted that the activities of illegal miners destroy the livelihood of cocoa farmers who generate lots of income for the nation.

He blames opinion leaders for encouraging illegal mining and calls for the arrest of anybody who uses his name as an excuse for such an illegal practices.
