Hunters believed to be coming from the Wenchi Municipality are allegedly wrecking havoc on residents of Badu in the Tain district of the Brong Ahafo region.
Residents of Badu who spoke to rawgist.com explain that the hunters steal food stuffs off their farms, destroy the farms and also sexually harass and rape their women on their farms.
The Town Council Chairman of Badu; Hon. James Kojo Tano , complains that the hunters are destroying their farmlands. He says several petitions to the Regional Minister seem to have yielded no results.
He explains that the hunters hunt everywhere including forest reserves with traditional prohibitions on hunting.
The residents say the activities of the hunters has scared them off their farms; a situation they believe will soon affect food security and economic well-being of the residents.
Hon. James Kojo Tano further laments that over 60 acres of cocoa farms and 200 acres of cashew plantations have been destroyed by the hunters.
He fears that if nothing is done immediately to remedy the situation, the residents of Badu would have no option than to confront them physically in retaliation.
He called on the Wenchi Municipal Security Council (MISEC) and the Tain District Security Council (DISEC) to as a matter of urgency act to address the situation before things get out of hands.
