Healthy Security key to National Security- Deputy Interior Minister
The Deputy Minister for the Interior, Mr. Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, has indicated that national security is closely linked to health security hence the need for stronger public–private partnerships (PPPs) to enhance Ghana’s healthcare system.
This was at the 67th Annual General Conference of the Ghana Medical Association last Friday in Accra, on the theme “Strengthening Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) for Sustainable Healthcare Delivery.”
He said that the strength of the country’s borders, peace within communities, and the resilience of national institutions all depend on a strong healthcare foundation.
He stressed that PPPs are a strategic necessity rather than merely cooperative arrangements, and urged the Ghana Medical Association to take a leading role in shaping PPP policies while prioritizing healthcare delivery in rural and urban areas.
The Minister for Health, Mr. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to expanding partnerships with the private sector to improve healthcare delivery and announced plans to decentralize the recruitment of doctors and address persistent setbacks within the healthcare system.
The conference brought together healthcare professionals, policymakers, and other stakeholders to explore strategies for improving Ghana’s healthcare system.
